Standard's Choice: Miss Universe 2018 hot picks

The moment of truth has finally arrived for the country’s bet Catriona Gray at the 67th Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok, Thailand. 

Gray is coming into the finals brimming with confidence and determination to bring back the crown since 2015’s title-conquest of Pia Wurtzbach.

As expected, Gray rocked the stage in the preliminary competition in swimsuit and evening gown, and in the national costume show where she paraded in ‘Pintados’ bodysuit and a huge ‘parol’ back piece symbolizing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, designed by Jearson Dimavivas, Jojo Bragais, and Carlos Buendia. 

Gray has consistently stood out in the preliminary events leading to the finals to be held at Impact, Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok, tomorrow at  8 a.m. (Manila Time). 

After the preliminary competition where the girls sashayed the Miss Universe stage in their swimsuit ad long gown, we are listing down the girls who are big contenders to the crown:

1. Miss Philippines Catriona Gray is a 24-year-old Fil-Australian model and singer. Tipped to be the strongest candidate in this year’s edition of Miss Universe, Catriona is also the most popular, most followed and most guarded contestant among the more than 90 delegates.

2. Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green is 23 years old. She attended New Orleans Secondary School in Paarl. The towering dusky beauty is a medical student at the University of Cape Town.

3. Miss Puerto Rico Kiara Ortega is a 25-year-old social worker/volunteer. She works for an organization named Centro Inés which provides different educational, recreational and support services for children and seniors to help develop a sense of independence, creativity, and mastery of skills.

4. Miss Colombia Valeria Morales is a 20-year-old communications student at Broward University (USA). Given her excellent skills on the runway, Valeria is an owner of a fashion academy back in her hometown.

5. Miss Australia Francessa Hung is 24 years old. She has a Hong Kong-Australian father and an Irish-Australian mother. She is a professional model and studying for a Masters in Publishing after completing an undergraduate degree in Arts and Sociology.

6. Miss Venezuela Stephany Gutierrez is one of the youngest delegates at 19 years old. She is a law student at Santa María University located in the northeastern region of her country.

7. Miss Viet Nam H’Hen Nie is a 26-year-old Business Finance graduate. She used to work on a coffee farm to assist her family’s living when she was young. 

8. Miss Canada Marta Magdalena Stepein, 24, is a student of Biomedical Engineering Technology at St. Clair College and is an applied researcher. She speaks French, Polish, German and English. She is also a professional model.

9. Miss Japan Yuumi Kato is 22 years old. She studied Japanese traditional culture and tea servings. She speaks in Japanese, Chinese, English and Malay languages. Kato works as model, actress, and reporter.

10. Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers, 24 years old, is a child specialist and cum laude graduate in child development and strategic communication, with a minor degree in business. Summers worked as a certified child life specialist prior to becoming Miss USA.
