Makati trains barangay ‘master planners’

Makati Mayor Junjun Binay said that barangay officials recently completed sessions on environmental management.

The six-week workshop at the Makati Green Urban Design Center (Makati-GUDC) in Barangay West Rembo, he said in a statement released Wednesday.

“The learning and experience that they will gain from the course will be beneficial not only for the way they conduct policies and affairs of their government unit, but also the life of their constituents,” Binay said.

“At the end of the course, the local government officials and personnel will have their own green designs to implement in barangays.”

The first workshop was held in May 2011 with participants from the city’s 29 barangay units.

“I am truly proud of the design made that integrated functionality with creativeness and innovativeness,” Binay said, commending the assistance of the University of the Philippines School of Urban and Regional Planning alumni and the University of Makati.

He said graduate students of Mapua Institute of Technology-School of Architecture and Design helped the participants in preparing their project plans and presentation.
