President Gloria Arroyo has ordered police to probe claims of a member of the gang that robbed Greenbelt 5’s Rolex store that he and his colleagues had worked as bodyguards for a Pangasinan town mayor.
Deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez Jr. said heads would roll if the allegation of Dennis Serquina, member of the Alvin Flores Gang, proved true.
“This is a very serious accusation that needs to be investigated because this government will never allow anybody cloaked in power of being a local government executive to take advantage of his or her influence or authority for heinous crimes,” Golez said.
Serquina was arrested in Umingan town of Pangasinan last Saturday, two days after the gang leader Alvin Flores, and three members were killed in a shoot-out with police at a Cebu resort. A fifth member was wounded in the firefight and was taken into custody.
National Police Chief Jesus Verzosa said Serquina admitted to his participation in the Greenbelt 5 robbery.
Serquina identified his companions as Jay-R Zaldivar, Roger Carbonell, Walter Rodriquito and six others known only as Romy, Katawan, Taba, Toling, Joseph and Boyet, according to Verzosa.
Serquina also claimed that he and four other suspects in the robbery also worked as bodyguards for a town mayor in Pangasinan.
The mayor was not identified pending verification of Serquina’s story, Verzosa said.
Police were also trying to determine if the mayor bankrolled the robbery activities as part of his election fund-raising campaign.
