For a change, Richard Gutierrez plays a “normal guy” in the upcoming Full House, based on an extremely-popular Koreanovela topbilled by top actor-singer Jeong “Rain” Ji-hoon.
This time, Richard is an average guy who falls in love, laughs, cries, gets mad at times.
The Full House role is a 180-degree turn for Richard who TV audiences have always seen playing roles with extraordinary physical ability. This time he is romantic and comic.
Heart Evangelista plays Richard’s love-interest. The character was originally portrayed in the Koreanovela by Song Hye Kyo.
The cast and staff of Full House led by director Mark Reyes and Richard and Heart traveled to Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, to shoot some scenes in the series. Prague is particularly popular among Filipino devotees of the Santo Niño de Praga.
Richard Gutierrez and Heart Evangelista along with other members of the cast and crew of GMA-7 had a grand time during their shoot in Prague.
Everyone was excited to visit famous cultural attractions in one of Eastern Europe’s most beautiful cities. Known for its majestic architectural structures, Prague is the perfect location to shoot Full House as it aspires to achieve that high-end and sophisticated look on the small screen.
Richard is eager to play a character so unlike his roles in his previous shows. Here, he plays Justin, an egotistic actor who prefers to keep his feelings all to himself. Heart on the other hand, is just as excited. She is comic and perky as Jessie, the gullible, fun-loving wannabe of a writer who owns a house called Full House. Patrick Garcia and Isabel Oli will play Jessie and Justin’s love interests in the story.
The crew has returned from Prague Wednesday last week. Heart joined the Mano Po 6 group traveling to Beijing last Thursday.
Richard took several days off, but will be back to the set of Full House as soon as Heart planes in from Beijing today.
StarStruck again!
Yes, the reality TV search for future stars is back. Many are asking, for what? The network can’t even be proud of those they signed up after four years of the show. Not one of them can equal the popularity of Pinoy Big Brother alumni like Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu, and Sam Milby—three of the biggest stars of Philippine entertainment now.
The show premiered two Sundays ago with new hosts Dennis Trillo and Carla Abellana.
Will the Kapuso finally snag the star that has eluded them in the past? If you look at the GMA-7 screen, the dominant faces are not homegrown talents, but those who have been bypassed in the rival channel or those who have stuck with the channel since it tried to make a mark in broadcasting.
The network has finally succumbed to the seduction of Filipinos overseas… thinking perhaps that it might stumble into another Sam Milby.
Raymond Gutierrez takes over all Saturday episodes together with four StarStruck alumni—Mark Herras, LJ Reyes, Arci Muñoz and Paolo Avelino—who will rotate as segment hosts.
For 12 weeks more, the network will try to give StarStruck surprising twists and revelations. The hopefuls will try to outdo each other in painstaking tests sub-StarStruck Council composed of TV director Floy Quintos, actress Iza Calzado and talent manager Lolit Solis.
The search also has mentors, like Gina Alajar for acting, Douglas Nierras for dancing, Jai Sabas-Aracama for singing, Abbygale Arenas-de Leon for imaging and Barbie Chan for makeup.
Two winners will be proclaimed this season—The Ultimate Male and Female Survivors—in a two-hour Final Judgment Night to be held live at the Araneta Coliseum. At stake at the finals night are millions of pesos in cash prizes and a management contract with GMA-7.
My only wish for this Kapuso endeavor is to finally find someone that will become the ultimate sensation that will change the landscape of show business… but I doubt it will. Sadly, all the winners and losers in this search are lingering in Tinsel town, looking for a niche that can make them real stars.

Lenka at SM Malls
She became known with her hit singles “The Show” and “Trouble Is A Friend” which were used in popular US TV series like Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty and 90210. This December, SM Malls and Sony Music are bringing sweet-sounding Australian singer Lenka for a series of shows at SM Malls from Dec. 11 to 13.
Co-presented by MYX and 96.3 EasyRock, The show with Lenka Live in Manila will be held on Dec. 11 at SM Megamall, Dec. 12 at SM Mall of Asia and Dec. 13 at SM North Edsa. She will capture the hearts of Filipinos with her songs that are easy on the ears from her self-titled debut album which also features the new single “Knock Knock.” She thought of her record as a “mood-enhancer.”
“I don’t like it when people are depressed. I want to cheer them up,” she said.
Lenka trained under Oscar winner Cate Blanchett when she started as an actress in her native Australia. She also described herself as a “punk-ass art school student” and was a vocalist/keyboardist for acclaimed indie electronic/ambient outfit Decoder Ring before moving to the United States to pursue a solo career as a singer.
Lenka’s self-titled album is still out in CDs under Sony Music. To download Lenka’s songs, just text SC957 for “The Show” or SC975 for “Trouble Is A Friend” and send to 2332 (for Globe subscribers only).
