Very few actors have the savvy for style and fashion. Jericho Rosales, one-time Mr. Pogi in a noontime show and now the coolest, and one of the most desirable young actors on television and the movies, is one.
Why not? After all, Jericho Rosales is not only an actor and singer-songwriter, but a sportsman as well. His well-rounded personality qualifies him to be a fashion icon, knowing the kind of clothes he must wear on different occasions at different times of the day and in different places.
Watch him in the soap Dahil May Isang Ikaw and you will know what I’m talking about.
When he wears that short-sleeved barong Tagalog, his personality as Echo doesn’t overshadow the outfit but Jericho the actor adapts the character of the outfit as he plays a government lawyer. In other scenes where he is out of the office, his outfits define his on-screen persona. He doesn’t sell clothes that he endorses. The clothes become his character.
Outside of television, you will see Jericho in clothes that he has personally chosen to wear, a mix and match style of clothes that he finds in stores, yet he wears them with confidence as if they were especially made for him.
No, he doesn’t wear them to make anyone feel good, but he wears them because he likes what he feels when he is in them.
Whenever I have the chance to meet him in person, I can’t help but think of a movie in which his surfing skills can be exploited. (I don’t understand why Star Cinema can never think of material that will suit their stars in their maximum physicality, instead the production company imprisons them in characters that are lethargic, nearly phlegmatic whose only concerns are to get the women/men that will make them happy, albeit momentarily.) I remember Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Unfortunately no one among the Filipino directors (or trying to be directors) can be as daring as Kathryn in tackling characters in very complicated situations.
Recently, we met Jericho as he was introduced to the members of the press with his new Jericho Rosales collection for Mint.
The partnership has Jericho doing more than just being the fashion label’s male image model. He is also a partner in the production of fashion for men on which he is able to put his stamp on each item. That is why it is called Jericho Rosales by Mint and it is available in all the 36 Mint stores nationwide. This line boasts of great designs collaborated between Echo and the brand’s in-house designers and in alignment with Echo’s environmental cause are put together using materials that are eco-friendly. The tops are made of 100-percent cotton and the jeans are raw, unwashed and chemical-free.
In light of the recent calamity, Echo committed to donate his royalties from the sales of his signature line to the fund-drive for the victims of storm Ondoy.
From a star whose shine gets brighter with the passage of time and who knows what it means to be super cool, Echo’s passing the word on Mint to all the people who care about fashion and have the heart for their environment. “It’s a mint idea!” he states.
Located in SM and Robinsons Malls, Mint is opening more stores in the coming months. Its own line of fragrance is soon to be available as well, with perfume imports from Switzerland.
Sharon slaps Zsa Zsa
“I was slapped very hard by Shawie that my face became numb and I heard ringing in my ears,” said Zsa Zsa after shooting her confrontation scene with megastar Sharon Cuneta in Regal Film’s Mano Po 6: My Mother’s Love.
Sharon Cuneta and Zsa Zsa Padilla’s first collaboration in a movie (Madrasta) yielded critical acclaims for the two fine actresses, even giving the Megastar the elusive Grandslam Best Actress feat.
In Mano Po 6, Zsa Zsa’s role (Olive) will really terrorize Sharon’s character (Melinda). The two will be featured in a number of intense confrontation scenes and acting highlights in the movie, directed by Joel Lamangan and written by Roy Iglesias.
“I am so excited with this project. I love working with Sharon,” says Zsa Zsa. “If in the previous movie, we just had subtle exchange of mean words. In this movie, you’ll see how mean I can get.”
Known to be good friends in real life, Zsa Zsa and Sharon are comfortable with their scenes and both assure the public that Mano Po 6: My Mother’s Love will be a different experience.
“You’ll see a different Zsa Zsa in the movie,“ admits Zsa Zsa. “I can’t wait to make Sharon cry.”
Apart from Sharon and Zsa Zsa, the cast includes Christopher de Leon, Heart Evangelista, Dennis Trillo, Boots Anson Rosa, Ryan Eigenmann, Ciara Sotto and Kris Aquino in a cameo as Sharon’s best friend. Playing supporting roles are Niña Jose and JC de Vera.
