| Gaddi sweeps Mini-Rok class
CHRISTIAN Gaddi, the Cadet Karter of the Year by the 6th Golden Wheel at the Casino Filipino Grand Theater in Parañaque, is ready for a higher calling. The JeT Racing team skipper proved just that with a scintillating sweep of the pre-final and final race of the higher Mini-Rok class in the recent 2009 Philippine Karting Super Series opening leg at Carmona Circuit Philippines in Cavite. Using the inspiration of his Golden Wheel achievement at the wet and slippery tracks of the Carmona Circuit, Gaddi unleashed a flawless ride in the 15-lap race that had him leading from start to finish, en route to a clocking of 14:38.872 in beating his Cebuano rivals Kali Carcel and Basti Escalante. So dominant was Gaddi, undoubtedly one of the country’s top young karters today, that he even posted the final race’s fastest lap time of 58.403 in the 13th lap. “The track was slippery and quite dangerous, but I’ve been to these kinds of situations before, and so I knew how to react,” said Gaddi, who is backed by Bingo Bonanza Corp., Industria and Birel. Known for his talent and toughness, Gaddi is actually on a mission this season after almost scoring a double championship last year. With the Cadet 60 cc championship in the bag, Gaddi nearly snared the Mini-Rok crown as well, but unfortunately lost one race in the series. Aside from the Golden Wheel title, Gaddi also ran away with the same Cadet 60 cc award from the Automobile Association of the Philippines in Valle Verde, Pasig. He was also the overall Cadet 60 cc national series and Asian Karting Open Championships champion, but a year of intense competition has propelled the Grade 3 Claret School student to set higher goals this year. “That is the battle cry this season, to finally win the one that got away last year,” said the 10-year-old Gaddi, who despite his youth, has matured a lot after stints in both in the local and international scenes. Gaddi’s mother Teena, who is a fixture in all of her son’s races, thanked Christian’s school and sponsors for what could turn out to be another fruitful season for this young karter. “He couldn’t have won a division title last year without the support of his school and sponsors. It’s the same this year, it’s all about all of these factors combining with the natural racing talent of my son in order for him to have another fine racing year,” said Teena. |
