| Tamaraws make history in athletics
FAR Eastern University athletes broke three meet records as the Tamaraws completed a historic win in both the men and women?s divisions in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines athletics championships. Christopher Ulboc Jr., an education student, rewrote the 3,000-m steeplechase mark, and went on to collect two medals after also topping the 10,000-m run in the men?s action. Ulboc?s teammate Oliver Garcia broke the 10,000-meter record, as he helped contribute to FEU?s six-gold haul and 217-point tally. In the women?s side, former Palarong Pambansa campaigner Florida Gonzales rewrote the marks in the 5000-meter walk and took the gold in the 3000-m walk as she led FEU to five golds for a total tally of 284 points. Jenny Togle, another former Palaro bet, added to the Lady Tams? effort following golden feats in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. FEU coaches Rosito Andaya and Roselyn Hamero said the feats of the men?s and women?s squads are already an achievement, considering that they have been champions for five straight years. ?Nakalima na kaming sunud-sunod. Mas mahirap nang gawin ito next year dahil nag-iimprove na ang ibang teams,? chorused FEU coaches Andaya and Hamero during a simple ceremony feting the athletes at the FEU grounds last Tuesday.
