Kings battle Tigers

By Reuel Vidal

EXPECT the Antipolo Ynares Center to be packed to the rafters today as the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings battle the Coca-Cola Tigers in the 7:30 p.m. main game, while the Alaska Aces test the mettle of the San Miguel Beermen in the 4:50 p.m. opening match of the Motolite-Philippine Basketball Association Fiesta Conference.

And as a special treat to the people of Rizal, Gov. Junjun Ynares will open the gates of the Antipolo Ynares Center, from the bleachers down to the courtside seats, in celebration of his birthday and the inauguration of the Rizal Provincial Capitol.

The PBA joins the province of Rizal in the inauguration of its new provincial capitol in Antipolo today with the staging of the exciting twin bill. The new provincial capitol and the Antipolo Ynares Center are located in the same spacious complex. The old Rizal provincial capitol is in Pasig.

Defending champion Ginebra returns Rod Nealy, hoping to duplicate the magic of Chris Alexander, who led them in their successful title run in the 2008 tourney. The Kings failed to make it past the quarterfinal round with Nealy as import in 2007.

Nealy is up against another returning import in JJ Sullinger, a former Talk N Text reinforcement, who will start for Coca-Cola while the team awaits James Penny, who is still tied up in an engagement in Japan.

In the opening game, Galen Young returns to the Alaska camp, going up against the team?San Miguel Beer?which he powered to the semifinals in 2007. Nate Carter debuts with the Beermen in this contest.

?I am especially motivated just to come out here in the Philippines and play for Alaska again,? said Young. ?I have no ill feelings toward San Miguel. They treated me well when I played for them. I just want to play well and will give my best on Wednesday.?

Expected to support Young are Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference Willie Miller, LA Tenorio, Sonny Thoss, Joe Devance, Tony de la Cruz and Jeff Cariaso.
