Ardina, Puyat win in Florida

DOTTIE Ardina picked up her second win in the Future Collegians World Tour this season, topping the storm-hit Plantation Inn Open, while fellow International Container Terminal Services Inc. scholar Marcel Puyat ruled the boys? side at the Plantation Inn and Golf Resort in Florida Monday.

Ardina, who also dominated the field to annex the Eagle Creek title last October, endured a one-hour delay due to rains and mixed two birdies with the same number of bogeys at resumption, finishing with an even par 72 and posting a four-stroke win over Cyna Rodriguez with a 147.

Rodriguez, tied with Ardina in third with a 75 in the first round of the 36-hole tournament among the sport?s future stars, struggled with a four-over 76 but grabbed second place with a 151.

Mia Piccio, winner of the World Woods Rolling Oaks Open last October, also had a 76 and finished tied for third with Samantha Postillion (78) of Illinois at 153 to underscore the ICTSI-backed bets? domination of the girls? 13-18 category.

Puyat, who finished tied for second in the Leadbetter Challenge last month, used a strong start to cushion the impact of a faltering finish as he closed out with a one-under 71 to post a one-stroke win over three rivals in the boys? 16-18 division.

The 16-year-old Puyat, who started out in eighth place with a 73, bucked the windy conditions and soggy fairways, then overcame a five-stroke deficit with four birdies in the first 10 holes.

But he lost his touch coming home, hobbling with three bogeys in the last eight holes although he hung tough with a clutch par on the final hole then watched local bet Blake Soni and Sebastian Fernandez of Guatemala fumble with bogeys in the final hole to clinch the victory.

Soni, impressive with a 68 in the first round, folded with a 77 on six bogeys and a double-bogey against three birdies and settled for second at 145 in a tie with Fernandez (73) and Germany?s Peter Ganser, who birdied the final hole for a 74.
