| RP youth quintet to train in Australia
STARTING next month, the RP under-16 team of coach Eric Altamirano will get the privilege of experiencing world-class training from three of the world?s best institutions. This is in line with the RP Youth?s preparation for the Southeast Asia Basketball Association Youth Championship, slated in July this year. It will be a qualifying event for the Fiba Asia Youth Championship. ?Getting this rare opportunity of enjoying world-class training from three of the renowned institutions in the world would be a big boost for our campaigns in the Asian tournaments,? said Altamirano. The deal was forged after Altamirano visited his friend Rob Beveridge in Australia. Beveridge, who coaches in the Australian National Basketball League and is director of the Australian Institute of Sports, is a friend of Altamirano. The Australian mentor, likewise, expressed interest in coming over to conduct training for the youth players. ?It was Beveridge, who endorsed us to AIS,? said Altamirano. ?As soon as we are able to complete the team, we will experience world-class training from the AIS and two other institutions in Australia.? The RP Youth has yet finalize its lineup for the Seaba Youth event. Among those notable players include second-generation players like Ray Parks and Kieffer Ravena, Chris Tolomia and Cedric Labingisa. Parks and Ravena are the sons of Philippine Basketball Association seven-time Best Import Bobby Parks and former PBA Most Improved Player and Rookie of the Year Bong Ravena, respectively. Rey Joble |
