Not so conservative

By Diana A. Uy

Modest but with a dash of daring is how Sassa Activewear defines its new collection.

?We found out Filipinas are still a bit conservative,? says Gertie Hermanos, designer at Sassa Activewear since 2006. ?We still want our bikinis to cover the right places but at the same time show some skin.?

When it comes to swimwear, Pinays don?t necessarily follow trends. Our color preference still verges on the traditional acquas, blues, pinks and browns. Tankinis (a bikini bottom and a tank top) are also very popular among beach-loving Filipinas. The unconventional design and cut of tankinis allow wearers to either hide flaws or flaunt the right assets.

Sassa Activewear played on these details to launch its latest collection at Aquanox Restaurant in Makati recently. Sassa unveiled a line of sexy and fun one-piece swimsuits, tank tops, board shorts, rash guards, boylegs, bikinis, and of course tankinis in different floral and geometric prints and patterns and a variety of colors. Accessories?ranging from rings to shells?were also very evident in some pieces.

For the fabrics, Sassa used 80-percent nylon and 20-percent elastane to ensure comfort, wearability and durability of each swimsuit. Each Sassa swimwear has been chlorine tested, the manufacturers assure the colors won?t fade that easily. Sassa also emphasized the use of lining to help prevent the wearer from ?exposing too much.?

?What makes Sassa different is that we cater to all target markets, we offer the whole line and our prices are competitive,? says Hermanos, ?We have different designs, different options for different people.?
