The most delectable food blogs

by Ed Biado

Times Online (www.timesonline.co.uk) exposed their 50 of the World?s Best Food Blogs list a couple of weeks ago. The Daily 10 peeked into that list and took note of the first 10 entries. Then, we dug deeper to find out what makes them so scrumptious. Here?s what we deliciously unearthed:

1. Orangette (orangette.blogspot.com) ? Molly Wizenberg?s blog became so popular that she got approached to write a book. She?s now a published author with A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table. She also writes a column for Bon Apetit. The blog itself is literature?personal, almost fictional, yet semi-autobiographical and of course, there are the recipes.

2. Cannelle et Vanille (cannelle-vanille.blogspot.com) ? As of press time, pastry chef Aran Goyoaga?s blog has about 150 recipes of cakes, cookies, sorbets and other pastries. Looking at the pictures are gonna make your mouth water. There are also tips that are very useful and practical.

3. The Wednesday Chef (www.thewednesdaychef.com) ? Like a well-organized cookbook, the recipes are indexed and categorized (breakfast, salads, fish, meat, desserts, etc.). Another great thing about this blog by Luisa Weiss is that these recipes are the ones she got from The New York Times and The LA Times and tried herself.

4. Delicious Days (www.deliciousdays.com) ? Currently the top-rated food blog, Delicious Days has so much more than recipes. It catalogs food news and even provides food-blogging dos-and don?ts. Delicious Days has also turned into a book, with sidebars on friendship, traveling and a whole lot more.

5. David Lebovitz (www.davidlebovitz.com) ? David Lebovitz is a pastry chef with over 12 years of kitchen experience. He?s also written quite a few books and his blog is like an insider look into his life, his passion and definitely, his recipe secrets. It also includes restaurant reviews and everything about the Paris food scene, where he is based right now.

6. Chez Pim (www.chezpim.com) ? This self-titled blog is a journal of the author?s ?globetrotting adventures and misadventures in the world of all things edible.? Her posts are built around random thoughts that come out informative and very quirky. The Pad Thai for Beginners article covers not only the recipe, but almost everything you need to know about making Pad Thai.

7. Matt Bites (mattbites.com) ? Is it a food blog? Or is it a photography blog? Matt Armendariz? blog is about food, but you can?t help but admire the images. It is the author-slash-photographer?s way of expressing his passion (or according o him, obsession) for food and drink.

8. Serious Eats (www.seriouseats.com) ? An all-around all-American food Web site, founder Ed Levine and a host of contributors maintain Serious Eats to equip readers with news, commentary, recipes and tips on everything food-related. Go to their homepage and you?ll be humorously greeted with, ?Hello, Eater!?

9. 101 Cookbooks (www.101cookbooks.com) ? With hundreds of recipes with emphasis on health and vegetarian, 101 Cookbooks also reviews, well, cookbooks. It is written by cookbook author Heidi Swanson and is the 2007 Food Blog of the Year at the Food Blog Awards.

10. Smitten Kitchen (smittenkitchen.com) ? Deb Perelman has a lot of recipes on her blog, most of which are cakes and cookies, that are photographed beautifully. Interestingly, she documents her mistakes and trial-and-errors and even has a category labeled, ?Disasters,? which supposedly contains recipes that took a while to perfect.
