| Government auditors eye Bacolod organizers
AFTER the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee, the Commission on Audit will also run after the Bacolod SEA Games Organizing Committee. Philippine Sports Commission chairman Harry Angping said that the government?s auditing agency intends to get deeper into the unliquidated financial assistance the Basoc received from the government in the SEA Games held two years ago. ?I was briefed by our resident CoA people that until now, Basoc has yet to provide a clear-cut financial report to the PSC. This is alarming, so we have no option left but to get their attention and ask them [Basoc] to fulfill their obligation,? Angping said. PSC-CoA resident auditor Mario Lipana, according to Angping, has already asked Basoc officials to update its liquidation report, giving the Bacolod-based organizers 15 days to comply. Angping said that the Basoc, one of two satellite organizers of the 2005 SEA Games, still has unliquidated cash advances amounting to P50 million. Bacolod hosted six sports in the SEAG, namely weightlifting, football, karate, chess, judo and boxing. ?This is based on the book. Apat na taon na ang nakalilipas pero wala pa ring tamang liquidation ang Basoc. This is part of our house cleaning kaya we?re calling their attention,? said Angping. Last week, the PSC said that the Philsoc, chaired by Jose Cojuangco Jr., also the Philippine Olympic Committee president, still has still a pending liquidation of P74, 634,507.50. Edwin Rollon
