Tiger’s return excites golf world

By Anthony Suntay

TIGER Woods made a decent comeback the other week in the WGC Accenture-Matchplay Championships tournament and seeing him back was welcome news!

Whether you’re a Tiger fan or not, you will have to truly appreciate the fact that the world’s no. 1 player is back on the course.

It’s been so long since he won the US Open in scintillating fashion that you just crave for more.

This is not to insult the other players on tour, but there really hasn’t been too much excitement since Tiger was forced to the sidelines with his leg injury.

Now, he’s back and has gotten everybody interested again.

The PGA has also got to be pleased since the ratings have gone down since Tiger took a rest.

“I did some work with Hank Haney for a few days last week and it’s all good. I’m full-bore with my practice sessions and have no restrictions; it’s just a matter of getting my golf endurance up. I don’t have my golf stamina back yet,” Tiger revealed on his Web site.

I really don’t think his endurance should pose a problem at all. And as you saw in his first tournament back, he was good, but was just outplayed by his opponent. In matchplay, things like that can happen.

I believe that what Tiger is planning is to get into match shape by the time the Masters comes around.

He never mentions it much lately, but he has said it time and time again that all he wants to do is to win major tournaments in his chase of the record of his idol Jack Nicklaus, so Augusta has got to be the goal at this point.

Schedule wise, I think, he will take a lighter load this year to ease himself back, and to spend more time with his family, with his wife Elin recently giving birth to a baby boy.

“As for my comeback, a lot depends on the baby, which is due pretty soon. That takes precedent over anything I do golf-wise. Elin, Sam and I are very excited for the new baby to arrive, although that's when the real lack of sleep begins. But I must admit, I am also excited about returning to competition. Early on, I didn’t miss golf because I enjoyed staying home with Elin and Sam and I knew I wasn’t physically able to play. The truth is, I would have embarrassed myself,” Woods said a few weeks back.

Honestly, I only think he’s saying that now because it’s water under the bridge, but if given the chance, he would have been on the course, trying to win some more.

The biggest question though is with regards to his swing.

Did Tiger modify it once again to help out his knee?

“Many people have asked me if my swing has changed since the surgery, and the answer is no. I’m doing all the things I’ve been trying to do for a long time, but I can actually hit into my left leg without my bones moving. It’s a nice feeling! It is so much better than it ever has been because my bones aren’t grinding against each other,” Tiger answered.

With a straightforward response like that, Tiger is back and the golf world is ecstatic!
