Rachman vows to KO Melindo

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

FORMER International Boxing Federation world minimumweight champion Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia isn?t going to leave the outcome of his fight against World Boxing Organization?s no. 1-ranked Milan Melindo of the ALA Gym in the hands of the judges.

Rachman said he is going for a knockout in their fight billed ?Judgment Day? at the plush Waterfront Hotel on Saturday.

At a news conference at the Waterfront, Rachman, who spoke through his manager/interpreter Martinez dos Santos, said he won?t take any chances and is optimistic about winning by knockout.

Rachman reiterated his plan to use Melindo as a stepping stone for a future world title fight against Thailand?s World Boxing Council champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai.

The 37-year-old Rachman said he has trained long and hard for the fight against Melindo, adding that although the 21-year-old Filipino is a good fighter, he lacks the experience that the Indonesian fighter can fall back on, having a record of 62-6-5 with 31 knockouts.

Melindo has a record of 17-0 with 5 knockouts. The skilled WBO Asia-Pacific champion said he will do his talking in the ring and then Rachman will know that it was he who would use Rachman as a stepping stone.
