| Texters arrest 2-game slide
By Rey Joble AFTER two games, the Talk N Text Tropang Texters finally came out fully loaded and served notice of their back-to-back title aspirations. Jimmy Alapag had eight straight points in a murderous four-quarter assault by the Tropang Texters, who hammered a 133-111 triumph over the Coca-Cola Tigers and barged into the win column of the Motolite-Philippine Basketball Association Fiesta Conference at the Cuneta Astrodome last night. Alapag drilled in back-to-back treys, then added two free throws to give the Texters a commanding 111-95 advantage, with still 5:58 left in the match. But a triple by Jared Dillinger put the game away and sealed the victory for Talk N Text. It was the first win in three matches for the Tropang Texters, who had a very hard practice after their 100-106 loss to the Sta. Lucia Realtors. ?We just went back to the fundamentals. The day after we lost to Sta. Lucia, we had a very hard practice. It?s just a crash course in getting back into shape. I think it?s not too late for us to win more games,? said Talk N Text coach Chot Reyes. But Reyes wasn?t impressed even after another explosive game from his Texters. He?s more worried. ?When you see your team score 123 and lost and you see your team score 133 and win, that will worry you as a coach,? said Reyes. ?I mean, we need to score a 133 to win. What I want to see from my team is make some stops and be more defensive-minded to keep ourselves at the level of play that will make us a better team.? The Tropang Texters will have a very short time improving defensively as they will be back in action Saturday in Muntinlupa, where they face a dangerous Burger King side. ?A Wednesday and a Saturday game is very short for us, and facing a Burger King would be a true test for us. We are still far from being in the kind of shape for us to be competitive,? said Reyes. Tiras Wade finished with 38 points and 14 rebounds, but suffered cramps in the closing minute of the game. Alapag contributed 26 markers and six assists. JJ Sullinger had another double-double performance with 32 points and 11 rebounds. But he was held to just a lone field goal?a triple in the 7:39 mark of the fourth. |
