| Ombudsman set to issue ruling on ?euro cops?
The Office of the Ombudsman has yet to clear former police comptroller Eliseo de la Paz and other generals of charges in connection with the ?Moscow incident? last October. Assistant Ombudsman Mark Jalandoni said that even if the National Police is able to recover the 128,000 euros seized by the Russians from De la Paz and his wife, the former police general is not off the hook yet. De la Paz, who said the euros came from the intelligence fund, was part of the eight-man PNP delegation to the 77th Interpol General Assembly held in Russia. Jalandoni said the Office of the Ombudsman is set to issue its resolution on the case, taking into account this recent development. The Ombudsman looked into De la Paz?s alleged unauthorized release of the funds as well as the propriety of allowing him, a retiree, to attend the conference and the act of other generals of bringing their wives along with them to the Interpol event, Jalandoni said. The panel chaired by Jalandoni is composed of Director Lito Fangon, Director Elvira Chua, Catherine Pascua and Ryan de la Pe?a. For the unauthorized release of the euro funds, the police?s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group earlier filed charges against De la Paz and the other officers who attended the Interpol meeting: Senior Supt. Samuel Rodriguez, disbursing officer of the directorate for intelligence; Chief Supt. Orlando Pestano, chief of the finance service; and Senior Supt. Tomas Rentoy, chief of the budget division of the directorate for comptrollership. Macon Ramos Araneta
