Crame not for impounding, says Versoza

National Police Chief Jesus Versoza has ordered Camp Crame to get rid of vehicles which otherwise should be in the custody of the Land Transportation Office.

He issued the order amid reports that officers on LTO detail were using the headquarters as an impounding area against regulations, unless a vehicle figured in a carnapping incident or was being held as evidence in a criminal case.

?All confiscated vehicles and documents shall be turned over to the LTO immediately following the operations,? Verzosa said, noting that case officers should not possess confiscated drivers? licences and plate numbers.

He said no exception would be made and any violation would be dealt with severely.

?The reports received by the PNP are now being investigated by the concerned directorates,? Versoza added, indicating that procedures would be followed to the letter.

The new guideline, according to Chief Supt. Nicanor Bartolome, National Police spokesman, is meant to avoid confusion in regulating the land transport sector. Romie A. Evangelista
