| Nazarene on global positioning
The Black Nazarene will be monitored by the Manila Police using global positioning system for security in a procession, starting at the Luneta Grandstand winding up at the Quiapo church. For good measure, authorities have set up close circuit television cameras to keep the crowd on sight at every stage as devotees pull the carriage bearing the icon. Station 3 Supt. Romulo Sapitula earlier made a run-through of the route to ensure the safety of more than a million people, many barefooted and clad in maroon shirts with the Nazarene imprint, trying to touch the statue. ?We don?t want to be prepared for any eventuality during the feast of the Black Nazarene,? he said, indicating the possibility that some quarters might take advantage of the occasion. For good measure, Sapitula said the organizers have agreed to refrain from using firecrackers to prevent undue alarm that could lead to a stampede. From Quirino Grandstand, the procession goes to P. Burgos toward MacArthur Bridge along Rizal Avenue then right to CM Recto Avenue, then right again to Legarda Street to Arlegui heading for Quezon Boulevard turning to C. Palanca then Villalobos and back to Quiapo church. All heavy/cargo trucks coming from the south will take President Osme?a, right President Quirino to Nagtahan via AH Lacson to Capulong (vice versa). All motorists intending to proceed to north or south of Manila will use the stretch of Lacson to Nagtahan (vice versa) or Road 10 to Roxas Boulevard (vice versa) to point of destination.
