| UP frat sets 12th global congress
The Upsilon Sigma Phi Alumni Association will hold its 12th World Congress on Jan. 10 at the Bahay ng Alumni in the University of the Philippines Campus in Diliman, Quezon City. Former Congressman Francisco Aniag Jr., USPAA president, said fraternity members from abroad will also attend the congress. Founded in 1918, USPAA is the oldest university fraternity in the country. It has 3,000 members, including those working abroad, with Dean Antonio Abad serving as chairman. Plenary session opens the daylong affair at 8 a.m., with workshops to follow shortly in the morning session, Aniag said. Another session is set in the afternoon, afterwhich the traditional Grand Hobo Party will take place. The association boasts of such noted big names that have in one way or another made the country?s political, social and economic landscapes as storied as it had been. Some of the noted names include the late President Ferdinand Marcos, and the late Senator Benigno ?Ninoy? Aquino, Laurel brothers (Jose, Sotero and Salvador), Wenceslao Vinzons, Gerry Roxas, Nicanor Yniguez, Arturo Tolentino, Enrique Fernando, Pio Pedroso, Salvador Lopez, and Onofre D. Corpuz who were heavyweights in Philippine politics of bygone times. Edgardo Espiritu, Nene Araneta, Pitoy Moreno, Mat Caparas as well as senators Dick Gordon, Francis Pangilinan, Joker Arroyo are members of the association. |
