THE International Container Terminal Services Inc. fortified its status as the leading amateur golf team in the country as it achieved 59 individual honors and four team championships, which surpassed by three its target of 60 for 2008. Ferdinand Aunzo, one of the national team players, led the squad with seven titles including the Philippine Amateur Championship, Samsung leg at Eagle Ridge, Karambunai Amateur Open, Sabah Amateur Open and Fil-Am Men?s Golf Invitational. He was also top-ranked in the Razon Invitational and ICTSI Pro Tour leg at Sherwood Hills. Rufino Bayron, Aunzo?s teammate in numerous international tournaments, checked in with five victories, namely ICTSI Pro Tour-Valley Golf Challenge (pro and amateur), Asean Golf Tour-Malaysia, Asean Golf Tour-Mount Malarayat and the DHL-WWWExpress Amateur Championship. Jobim Carlos matched Bayron?s five wins for the year, when he dominated the junior golf scene. In the ladies? side, Bacolod native Anya Tanpinco and Filipina-Japanese Chihiro Ikeda each brought home five crowns. Tanpinco shone best at the RSGC Women?s Open, Sutera Open, Philippine Amateur, Southern Ladies and Samsung leg at Summit Point, while Ikeda flourished at the RP Ladies? Open, Sabah Amateur, Thailand Junior Open, Singapore Junior Championship and DHL-WWWExpress Amateur. ?On behalf of the whole squad, I would like to express my utmost gratitude to ICTSI chairman Enrique Razon, manager Narlene Soriano, assistant coaches Nestor Mendoza, pro Cassius Casas, Joel Althea III, Millet Villaroman, JR Tanpinco, Jojo Nabor and Andrew Cifra for their continuous support. We would not have done it without their help,? said head coach Bong Lopez. When asked if he?ll go for 70 this year, Lopez said: ?Of course. Maybe we can do more than that. My boys and girls are capable of doing so.? Cyna Rodriguez finished with four tiaras, followed by three each by Antonio Asistio, jungolfer Bino de la Paz, Dottie Ardina, Louise Manalo and Mia Piccio. With two were Bambee de la Paz and Sarah Ababa. Anthony Fernando, BJ Mi?oza, Gendleness de la Cerna, Gretchen Villacencio, Joey Huerva, JR Quiatchon and Sheryl Villacencio each had one. ?It will be all be hard work because there is no shortcut to success,? said Lopez.
