| Coke Tigers not after Guiao
COCA-COLA Philippine Basketball Association governor JB Baylon said the Tigers are not considering resigned Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao as a replacement for Kenneth Duremdes, who took over in an acting capacity from Binky Favis some months ago. ?I don?t know where the story that we are considering Yeng came from, but it was not from any of us,? said Baylon. ?Duremdes knows his weaknesses and if we can address those weaknesses, retaining him is an option.? Guiao himself has made it clear he is not chasing a coaching job in the PBA, but would consider it, if he received an offer. At present, the fiery Red Bull coach who built a fiercely competitive team that earned a name for itself in the PBA, is concentrating on his task as coach of the Philippine Team that will compete in the Southeast Asia Basketball Association Championships this year and later on in the Fiba qualifying tournament for the World Basketball Championships. Meantime, 6?9? center Japeth Aguilar, who will return to the Philippines in May to try out for the national team under Guiao, has rejoined the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I squad, Western Kentucky University in its game against University of Arkansas at Little Rock at the Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Aguilar had been sidelined with a metatarsal injury in his right foot, just before the start of the season, according to his father?former PBA player Peter Aguilar. The WKU Hilltoppers held the UALR Trojans scoreless through the opening 10:17 en route to a 14-0 run and a decisive 79-47 victory in a battle of Sun Belt Conference division leaders. Aguilar saw action for just nine minutes, made one out two field-goal attempts, hauled down one defensive rebound and pulled off one steal. Ronnie Nathanielsz |
