Palace help asked over Sikh turmoil

THE FAMILY of the niece of special envoy to the Middle East Ambassador Roy Cimatu has asked Malacañang to stop the rash of killings and abductions of Indians belonging to the Khalsa Diwa Sikh temple in Ermita.

Surjit Singh and Amandy, husband and daughter of Janet Tabieros Singh, who was gunned down last Dec. 8 by two motorcycle-riding men in Manila, sought media’s help to bring their ordeal to higher authorities.

“I hope the government should act on these incidents to prevent further bloodshed and kidnappings,” said Singh, who claimed he was receiving threats daily due to his anti-crime crusade.

His wife was repeatedly shot in the head and body after getting off from her car in front of her grocery on UN Avenue corner Tanque Street in Paco.

Singh said the Filipino-Indian Chamber of Commerce—where he is a director—has listed 140 deaths from 2007 to 2008 alone. Macon Ramos Araneta
