| Cojuangco wants PSC law amended
THE Philippine Olympic Committee yesterday said it will ask Congress to amend some provisions in the Philippine Sports Commission charter for it to be more responsive to the needs of the different sports associations with regards to their participation in tournaments abroad. POC president Jose Cojuangco Jr. said the issues were discussed during the executive board meeting and received full backing from the board, which included Bacolod City congressman and POC chairman Monico Puentebella. ?This is the best time to lobby at Congress for major amendments in the PSC charter. First and foremost, we have to define clearly the roles of the PSC to POC and to the NSAs. Sa ngayon, hindi ito klaro kaya ang nangyayari, nagkakaroon ng konting bangayan sa ating mga sports leaders,? said Cojuangco. Cojuangco said the POC only has a vague understanding with regards the government policy particularly in the budget allocation intended for the NSAs? participation and training in abroad. Although both the PSC and the POC have agreed to give priority to the 10 sports, where Filipino athletes have the capability to excel from which they can win a first-ever Olympic gold, the relationship between the two sports bodies remained strained because of differing interpretation of the law that created the PSC.
