Midnight denies knowing of P50-m bribe

Radio commentator Johnny Midnight, father of a suspected illegal drug dealer, showed up at the National Bureau of Investigation headquarters to deny allegations of a P50-million bribe.

John Joseph Jr. told head agent Arnel Dalumpines of the Special Task Force, that his son Jorge, 22, was innocent of charges by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

?I wish to categorically state that I am not personally aware nor do I have any personal knowledge of any purported acts of alleged bribery as narrated by General Santiago [PDEA head Dionisio Santiago] and Major Marcelino [PDEA-Special Enforcement Service chief Ferdinand Marcelino]. I am also at liberty to say the same for the members of my family,? he said in his affidavit.

Joseph, Richard Brodett and Joseph Tecson were arrested separately on Sept. 20 last year in Ayala-Alabang, Muntinlupa City, and at the Araneta Center, Quezon City, for alleged possession of marijuana, Ecstasy and cocaine.

Marcelino was a no-show, but he sent a letter telling the bureau to get a copy of his transcript from the Congress hearing several weeks ago.

Among those who have filed their affidavits, according to Dalumpines, are Justice Under-secretary Ricardo Blancaflor, Chief State Prosecutor Jovencito Zu?o, Senior State Prosecutor Phillip Kimpo, State Prosecutor John Resado and Misael Ladaga, of the Justice-Task Force Anti-Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

Richard ?Butch? Brodett, father of one of the suspects, and his wife Myra, have submitted their supplemental affidavit while his brother Philip, turned in his one-page affidavit. Jing Villamente
