Businesswoman, driver arrested for slay attempt

A businesswoman who tried to kill a man whom she suspected of robbing her two years ago landed in jail when he survived to tell his story.

Francia Regachuelo, 52, a resident of 5 Aguho St., Barangay Claro, Project 3, Quezon City, was arrested along with her driver, Jorge Laguno, 34, of 107 K-7th St., after they kidnapped Christopher Galera, 26.

Regachuelo, who is a supplier with Sogo Hotel and Victoria Court, along with Laguno were charged with abduction and attempted murder for stabbing Galera and leaving him almost lifeless at a vacant lot in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Galera was among five people accused of robbing Regachuelo but the case was dismissed.

Supt. Franklin Moises Mabanag, QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit chief, said they were picked up yesterday after Galera managed to show up before authorities.

Mabanag said Galera, a tricycle driver, was waiting for a passenger at 11 a.m. near the St. Joseph church on Molave St. when Laguno, identifying himself as a policeman, ordered that he be taken home.

Upon reaching K-7th, Galera said Regachuelo was waiting inside her Mitsubishi Pajero. Laguno pushed him in before Regachuelo drove off to Laguna.

Investigation showed that Galera was forced to rat on four other people but when he refused, Laguno stabbed him in the back.

The victim was left for dead but upon regaining consciousness reported the incident to the Sta. Rosa police and was later brought to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center on C-5 Road. Joel M. Sy Egco
