3,000 stranded at airports

?Bad weather in Mindanao and the Visayas forced the cancelation of at least 18 domestic flights bound for Cagayan de Oro, Busuanga and Caticlan,? the agency said.

?All Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific flights to the three destinations were canceled at 8:30 a.m. because of poor visibility caused by heavy rain and strong winds.?

Passengers affected by the cancelations were billeted in nearby hotels. Those scheduled for afternoon flights were advised to contact their airlines for new schedules.

?International flights were not affected,? agency spokesman Connie Bungag said.

Meanwhile, Zest Air resumed its flights to Caticlan from Manila yesterday, a day after one of its new turboprop planes skidded off the runway and hit the tarmac?s barrier in Caticlan, the nearest gateway to the resort island of Boracay, on Sunday.

Zest Air, formerly Asian Spirit Airline, said its coming flights to Caticlan were all nearly full.

The Clark, Pampanga-based airline flies 10 times daily to Caticlan from Manila and also serves 18 other provincial destinations.

The Caticlan airport reopened to incoming flights at 12:30 p.m. yesterday after officials had Zest Air?s MA60 turboprop removed.

Some passengers were injured after the plane missed the short runway as a result of strong winds, but a Zest Air official said things were back to normal.

?There are no problems with our service, which has already resumed to Caticlan,? a customer service agent said. Vito Barcelo and Roderick T. dela Cruz
