Quezon City to open 2nd polytechnic university

THE Quezon City government is opening its second polytechnic school to open the gateway for public high school graduates to pursue tertiary education.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said the completion of the Quezon City Polytechnic University on IBP Road in Barangay Batasan Hills was timed for the start of classes in the coming schoolyear.

He said the 18-classroom building was designed for about 400 students who would be taking up courses such as Information and Communications Technology, Entrepreneurial Management and Industrial Engineering.

Noting the need to take in more students into college level instruction, Belmonte said the new school was an expansion of the first Quezon City Polytechnic University in Barangay San Bartolome, Novaliches.

?Your city government is firmly committed to invest in this institution and we are slowly moving in the direction of transforming the QCPU as a highly competitive technological university, one that will address the manpower needs of our changing economy.?

According to Belmonte, the curriculum also offers one-year certificate on automotive mechanic, computer technician, diesel mechanic, industrial electrician, machine shop operator, refrigeration and air-condition technician, among other programs.

He said the city recognized the ladderized and expanded tertiary education equivalency accreditation program introduced by the Technical Education, Skills and Development Authority for vocational graduates.

Belmonte said daily admission tests are scheduled in April. Rio N. Araja
