| Batang Pier shoot for 2-0 lead
HARBOUR Centre tries to inch closer to an unprecedented sixth straight championship when it collides with Magnolia Purewater in Game 2 of their title series in the 2009 Philippine Basketball League PG Flex Linoleum Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. Emboldened by their 84-71 win in the opening of their best-o-five title series, the Batang Pier are expected to pull out all the stops beginning at 2:30 p.m. as they bid to become the first team in league history to win six successive titles. Harbour Centre coach Jorge Gallent appears convinced they?re headed toward that path if Game 1 of the series is used as a gauge. ?Despite our struggle in the first half, it was a good win. And I hope it will set the tone of the series,? said Gallent as he rued a one-week rest that made them a little bit rusty in the early part of the game. The Batang Pier were idle for several days after sweeping the Hapee Complete Protectors in their own best-of-five semis series, while the Wizards needed five games to dispatch stubborn Bacchus Energy Drink squad. But Gallent downplayed the prospect of sweeping the series, saying: ?From the start, I?m confident of our chances, but I can?t say if we can sweep Magnolia. Magnolia has talented players, so you can?t put them down easily.? Magnolia coach Koy Banal admitted they were not on their usual sharp form. ?It was just one of the days that we?re not on our usual self, maybe we woke up on the different side of the bed,? said Banal.
