| Daniels is yardstick for imports
BRIAN Hamilton of Purefoods owns possibly the most impressive credentials among new imports playing in the Philippine Basketball Association Fiesta Cup. But Shawn Daniels is still the yardstick among the reinforcements. Hamilton and Daniels led seven other reinforcements, who showed up during the measurement of imports yesterday at the PBA Office in Libis, Quezon City, as teams brace for an action-packed battle in the season-ending conference beginning Saturday. Daniels was measured as the tallest at 6?5 and 3/8?. But more than his height and his frame, it?s his overall team play that certainly put his squad, Burger King, as among the favorites in the tournament. The wide-bodied Daniels led the Air21 Express to their previous best. The Express finished runner-up behind defending champion Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings, who will also parade another balik-import in Rod Nealy. Nealy was measured 6?5 and 1/16?. On the hands of Nealy rest the fate of the Gin Kings? squad, which will miss key player Mark Caguioa for a few more months again this conference. Hamilton, who was signed up by New Jersey Nets in the National Basketball Association, also passed the 6?6? height limit. The man who replaced the injured Reggie Larry was measured 6?4 and 3/4? and will play the starting small forward to the talent-laden Giants squad of coach Ryan Gregorio. The smallest import in the group is Scooter McFadgon of the Barako Bull, who was measured 6?3 and 13/16?. The other imports who were measured were Anthony Johnson of Sta. Lucia (6?4 and 15/16?), Charles Clark of Rain or Shine (6?5 and 1/4?), Nate Carter of San Miguel Beer (6?5 and 1/16?), JJ Sullinger of Coca-Cola (6?4 and 1/4?) and Tiras Wade of Talk N Text (6?5 and 3/8?).
