| Football gets P10-m assistance
ASIAN Football Confederation president Mohammad bin Hammam of Qatar has pledged P10 million in financial assistance to the Philippine Football Federation for the next two years. Hammam announced AFC?s renewed financial support to the PFF?s programs during a meeting with 29 of 32 football association heads at the Discovery Suites in Ortigas. Around P5 million in aid will be released this year to the PFF, while the rest will be given next year. As the AFC chief gave this pledge, he also appealed for unity among the PFF?s member-associations, asking its leaders to focus more on creating and developing programs. Mari Martinez remained as PFF?s president after the board of governors cleared him of any wrongdoings. Last year, the AFC supported the construction of the PFF?s national office, known as the Football House, and gave out financial assistance to selected coaches. Meanwhile, the Philippine Sports Commission has padlocked the office of the National Archery Association of the Philippines at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex pending the resolution of its leadership row. An ongoing leadership dispute has compelled PSC chairman Harry Angping to deny the groups of Leonora Brawner and board representative Rene Bartolome access to the second-floor office facility. ?As far as the PSC is concerned, there is still a dispute to be settled. Brawner may be recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee. But their office is in PSC property,? said Angping. Angping said that NAAP board has chosen Bartolome as its interim head.
