| Kith or kin don?t hold sway in Pampanga warns
PRESIDENT Arroyo yesterday ordered Pampanga officials to crack down on illegal activities in the province and not to allow anyone, not even her relatives, to get in the way. Mrs. Arroyo gave the order after Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio accused her son, Rep. Mikey Arroyo (Pampanga) of blocking his efforts to stop the illegal numbers game called jueteng by supporting the continued stay of the provincial police director whom the governor accused of protecting the gambling lords in the province. Addressing the province?s officials in Clark Field, Mrs. Arroyo stressed that it is the policy of her administration to stop illegal activities. ?So, let me take this opportunity to order all the local government officials to work together and to stop anything illegal in Pampanga.? Mrs. Arroyo also directed Chief Supt. Nilo de la Cruz, regional director of the police?s Central Luzon office, to push the campaign against illegal activities. Following Panlilio?s complaint, Police Chief Jesus Verzosa replaced Senior Supt. Keith Singian as Pampanga police chief with Senior Supt. Gil Lebin. President Arroyo also urged the non-government organizations and the people of the province to help their officials in addressing the problem of illegal activities in the province. Roy Pelovello |
