Aces to hire former Tigers? reinforcement

WHILE awaiting for Rosell Ellis to fulfill his commitment with the Townsville Crocodiles in the National Basketball League in Australia, the Alaska Aces are looking for an old reliable to reinforce their squad temporarily in the coming Fiesta Cup starting on Feb.28.

Jeff Varem, who played for the Coca-Cola Tigers two seasons ago, might play as the Aces? import in their first few games in the Fiesta Conference.

The former Washington State stalwart had stints in the strong Euro Cup tournament in the 2007-08 season before playing for the Tigers, where he wore one of the league?s highest jersey numbers of 91. He also played in the National Basketball Association Summer League for three years.

A hardworking frontliner, Varem would be a perfect fit for the Aces who need a solid weakside rebounder.

The 6?6? Varem was also a member of the Nigerian team, which played for the 2006 Fiba World Championship. Recently, he played for the Iranian Super League where he is one of the most dependable imports.

Meanwhile, Purefoods is likewise looking for a replacement import for Reggie Larry, who suffered a dislocated finger in the Giants? tune-up game win over the San Miguel Beermen.

The Giants, who are also keen on tapping former Best Import awardee Marquin Chandler, will be forced to get a new reinforcement.
