Priest suspended over Mass profit

A BICOL parish priest has been suspended indefinitely for profiting from the Masses he has been officiating, according to CBCP News, the official publication of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines says.

The publication quoted Daet Bishop Gilbert Garcera as saying that Roque Bacayo was found to have violated Canon 1385, which bans trafficking in Mass offerings.

Garcera said Bacayo had committed ?unlawful manipulation of mass stipends in order to gain or make profit.?

He said he warned Bacayo to stop before suspending him, but Bacayo ignored him and continued ?making profit.?

A suspended priest is not allowed to celebrate Mass, hear confessions, or administer any sacrament, though he may receive them. Arlie Calalo
