Manila expects 10% rise in overseas deployment

THE government expects 1.3-million Filipinos to go abroad to work this year, 10 percent more than last year, despite the global economic slowdown.
At a presentation before the House committee on economic affairs, Hans Cacdac, deputy administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, acknowledged that some Filipinos would lose their jobs abroad, particularly in construction, manufacturing, retail, tourism and services.
