Valenzuela eggs MMDA on projects

Valenzuela City Councilor Alvin Feliciano scored Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando for lack of projects despite its P35-million contribution as a component locality.

?Apparently, there is failure on the part of MMDA with regard to project and repairs in the city, the fact that millions of pesos were contributed by the city to the agency,? he said.

He said the funds came from the city?s internal revenue allotment the bulk of which should be allotted to infrastructure and social services.

Feliciano noted that Valenzuela residents expected MMDA to repair roads and clean waterways especially during dry months as the city is submerged in floodwater during the rainy season.

?It is just but proper that MMDA conduct some repairs and renovation in our locality, hindi naman nagkukulang ang local government sa pagbibigay ng obligasyon sa kanila kaya?t dapat rin na ibalik nila ito sa mga tao sa pamamagitan ng mga projects [Valenzuela is not remiss in meeting its obligations so MMDA has to pay back in terms of projects].?

Feliciano wondered if Fernando was playing favorites among the 17 member localities, noting that Valenzuela appeared to have been singled out by the MMDA?s failure to submit a list undertaking to the city council.

While not giving up on the agency, Feliciano urged Fernando to look into the plight of Valenzuela notwithstanding the chairman?s priorities given his announced plan to join the presidential derby in 2010. Gigi Mu?oz David
