Pre-Valentine check-in is sexagenarian’s last hurrah

A 64-year-old Filipino-Chinese, who checked in with an unidentified woman at a motel in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on Thursday was found dead alone inside his room past midnight yesterday, said the police.

Supt. Romulo Sapitula, Station 3 commander, identified the fatality as Robert Lee, supervisor of United Asia Weaving and Trimming Manufacturing Corp. at 10 Macopa Road, Potrero, Malabon.

Drug overdose was eyed after investigators found Chinese medication akin to a prescriptive remedy for erectile dysfunction in his pocket along with his identification card and coin purse.

“We found no indication of foul play on the victim’s body and probably died from taking a substance similar to Viagra,” Sapitula said.

Lee was found sprawled on the floor lying face down wearing only his white sando shirt, inside room M-2 on the second floor of Villa Fiesta Inn at 1338 Rizal Avenue corner Bambang Street at 12:45 a.m.

Investigation showed Wilbert Adanza, janitor, was sweeping the corridor when he noticed the door slightly ajar; peering inside, he saw the body.

Dante Tapuso, roomboy, noted that Lee signed in with a companion at 8:15 p.m., paying for an overnight stay.

Sapitula said the woman who left the motel at 12:25 was being tracked down by his men. Jing Villamente
