| ICTSI golf makes Interclub debut
By Adrian Flores FERDIE Aunzo, Rufino Bayron and Tonlits Asistio, current members of the national team, banner the International Container Terminal Services Inc., which makes its debut in the 62nd Philippine Airlines Interclub at the Apo Golf Club and Palos Verdes. With their entry and the reported beefed-up squad of former champion Manila Southwoods, expect a three-way battle in the regular men?s division as the two teams try to unseat defending champion Cangolf later this month in Davao City. Anthony Fernando, who will suit up for the last time as an amateur, will play backup, alongside Dante Becierra Villaber brothers Sonny and Peter, and Brent Sumampong. ?The boys are looking forward to their stint in the PAL tournament. They have been playing in numerous events here and abroad, but not the PAL. It will be a new experience for them,? said ICTSI head coach Bong Lopez. One thing that could work to ICTSI?s advantage is the fact that it is very familiar with the Carabao-grass fairways and slow greens of the Apo Golf Club, one of PAL?s venue hosts, because most of its players hail from Davao. ?Yes, it is a plus for us. I don?t see any problem in our campaign,? said Lopez, who was part of the three-peat champion Camp Aguinaldo from 1988 to 1990. Manila Southwoods could be the Interclub?s underdog this year. It is trying to rebuild its roster around veteran Erwin Vinluan. The Carmona-based contingent?s recent triumph of the Am championship division of the Fil-Am Men?s Golf Invitational serves as an inspiration. |
