Campbell wants to break Pacman to pieces

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation/World Boxing Organization lightweight champion Nate Campbell hasn?t even got past mandatory challenger Ali Funeka, but he is already looking ahead, boasting he?d like to break Filipino ring hero Manny Pacquiao into pieces.

?I would love to break Pacquiao into a thousand little pieces. I think that may make the whole Philippine nation hate me,? Campbell told journalist Scott Fraser Campbell. ?They can scream Pacman, all they want. Pacquiao doesn?t want to see me. I don?t think Pacquiao can deal with what I?ll bring. My body punching wouldn?t bust him up, it would make him throw up.?

In an intended dig at Pacquiao, who has declined to face Juan Manuel Marquez in a third fight since he?s beaten him already and doesn?t believe a third fight is important right now, Campbell commended Marquez: ?He will sign [to fight Campbell] and he will fight and I respect him for that.?

Campbell is the same cocky fighter who stuck his chin out and invited Robbie Peden to him in a fight in March 2004. He paid the price when Peden cracked him with a left hook and knocked Campbell out cold in the fifth round.

Pacquiao, who is back in Manila after a quick trip for an entertainment show of GMA-7 in Guam, is scheduled to leave for Los Angeles on Feb. 24 and then fly to Britain for his two-stop promotional tour for the Las Vegas, May 2 showdown with Ricky Hatton.

Pacquiao?s lawyer Franklin ?Jeng? Gacal said his client would start the promotional tour in Hatton?s hometown of Manchester on March 1, after which he would travel to London and then return to the US for additional stops in New York and San Francisco.

Gacal said that the original decision to start training at Freddie Roach?s Wild Card gym on March 1 would have to be pushed back for a couple of days.
