| Coaches pick Texters to win it all
By Rey Joble COACHES Jong Uichico of Ginebra and newly installed Burger King mentor Yeng Guiao, two of Philippine Basketball Association?s multi-titled bench tacticians, chose Talk N Text to prevail in Game 7 of the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup finals over Alaska tomorrow. ?I haven?t been watching the games lately, but the way the results of the games have been, I think Talk N Text has the edge over Alaska,? said Uichico, who steered the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings to a Game 7 victory over coach Bo Perasol?s Air21 Express in the Fiesta Conference last year. Guiao, presently the national team mentor and has been appointed to take over the reins from Perasol over at Burger King?the new franchise squad of the Lina Group?s team in the pro league?believes Talk N Text?s firepower has given Alaska coach Tim Cone lots of problems. ?Alaska must come up with a more resounding defense in Game 7 because that?s their biggest chance to win. But Talk N Text?s firepower is absolutely too much and that has spelled the difference lately,? said Guiao, whose only missing piece to his championship collections is an All-Filipino title. Guiao also stated that Talk N Text?s Game 6 victory has certainly given the Tropang Texters momentum on their side and would most likely use it as a driving point in their quest for their first title in six years. ?Malakas ang dating ng Talk N Text,? said Guiao. ?Everytime it establishes a lead, nahihirapan humabol ang Alaska while, on the other hand, kapag Alaska naman ang nakakalamang, mabilis nahahabol ng Talk N Text because of its tremendous firepower.? Perasol pointed out the loss of Jeffrey Cariaso due to a harmstring injury as a pivotal blow to the Aces? cause. ?Larry Fonacier has picked up the slack offensively, but Jeff?s defensive prowess will certainly be missed. Iba rin talaga ?yung may veteran smarts sa loob,? said Perasol, who will assist Coca-Cola head coach Kenneth Duremdes in the coming conference. But Perasol thinks that in a Game 7 encounter, the breaks of the game will be the determining factor for either squads. ?I?ve been in a Game 7 of the finals last year against Ginebra and one thing I?ve learned is that the breaks of the game served as the determining factor. Wala talagang may bentahe,? said Perasol. |
