As jobs are shed amid a global financial meltdown, Las Pi?as City is launching ?ICT Career Link 2009? to create work opportunities for residents.

Mayor Vergel ?Nene Aguilar said the Dr. Filemon Aguilar Information Technology Training Institute will host the job fair on Feb. 27 in campus on Dandelion St., Do?a Manuela Subdivision, Barangay Pamplona III.

?As jobs continue to be scarce during these difficult times, those who have acquired formal trainings really matter due to competitive demands,? Aguilar said.

Highlight of the event is the unveiling of Dr. Filemon Aguilar?s bust in memory of the mayor?s father, who is acclaimed as the patriarch of Las Pi?as circa ?60s.

Major companies have signified to support career link led by Blue Blade Technologies Inc., Media Farm Inc., Info Tech Xchange Inc. and Animation Council of the Philippines.

According to Aguilar, the fair will also offer on-the-job training experiences and employment to the first batch of DFCAIT graduates.

The institute was envisioned to extend technical education to poor but deserving students through short courses in information technology.

It opened in July 2008 with 2,000 full-scholar enrollees from the city?s public high schools, said DFCAIT director Conrad Camigla.
