Child abuse case dropped

By Gigi Mu?oz David

The Pasig City prosecutor?s office has dismissed the child abuse suit against Princess Revilla filed by her maid, claiming physical injuries inflicted since October 2007.

Prosecutor 1 Michael Robles saw no probable cause in the allegation of then 17-year-old Renalyn Arota.

?Further the complainant failed to sufficiently establish that she was subjected to the worst form of child labor, constituting a liability under RA 9231 on the part of the respondent. Again, mere allegation is not sufficient evidence.?

Aside from the case of Princess, Rebecca Revilla Ocampo, in real life, Robles also dismissed the physical injuries and other charges filed against Ruth Bajas and Ethel Avenido?the maid?s recruiter and Revilla?s girl Friday, respectively?for lack of jurisdiction.

In her complaint, Arota claimed she escaped from Revilla?s residence in Casa Verde, Pasig City on June 11, 2008 after being beaten up on top of unpaid salaries.

The maid?s counsel, Irene Alogoc, told Standard Today that she was shocked the prosecutor ?did not give weight to the two medical certificates we submitted to them to support the complaint.?

Alogoc said a motion for reconsideration would be filed.
