Samsung rolls out WiFi-equipped digicam

Aiming to differentiate its unit from the hordes of digicams available in the market, Samsung has found an ingenious trick to spruce up its new digicams: WiFi. At a recent launch event at the Rockwell Tent in Makati City, the Korean tech firm unveiled in the country the Smart Camera WB150F, which is equipped with WiFi technology to make sharing of photos easier. Interestingly, the camera has an affordable price tag of P11,990. The Samsung digicam features an 18x optical super zoom that captures the tiniest details of distant subjects. With its 14.2MP resolution, images are also captured with clarity, which can then be viewed on its 3.0” LCD display. From any Wi-Fi hotspot, users can share their photos on social networking sites such as Facebook, Picasa and Photobucket or post videos on YouTube in a few steps. They can also email photos straight from the camera. Samsung said users no longer have to worry about unearthing a tangle of cables to transfer images over their PC by simply using the Auto Backup function. They can also share photos instantly to friends using the Mobile Link app installed on their Samsung smartphones. “Listening to our customers, we understood that being able to conserve memories by sharing images instantly was what was missing from the high-quality cameras that they trust. With this in mind, we added ground-breaking Wi-Fi functions to our zoom camera,” said Ariel Arias, Samsung business unit head for the AV group. The Samsung WB150F also allows recording and sharing of video in HD. It captures scenery shots with a 720/30p HD capability. Users can also explore their own photographic skills with its A/S/M feature in which they can choose among Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Full Manual Control. Another feature of the unit is its optical image stabilization (OIS) that can reduce blurring from camera shake. The Live Panorama capability also allows users to capture wide shots – from sprawling mountain peaks to large groups of friends. This function allows the easy capture of large scenes by simply holding down the shutter button and sweeping the camera across. Users can even preview the whole scene they have just captured via the LCD screen. The Split Shot feature, meanwhile, allows the screen to be divided using the preset layouts and create different photographs by blending them together to create a whole new view to the photos.
