Fresnedi to open primary school

Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi is set to open on Friday a multi-level school building to ease up overcrowding in classrooms.

The Bayanan Elementary School Unit I joins other new structures at the Bayanan Baywalk, a mixed-use hub in the locality.

School principal Clarita Alejandro said the list of guests include Supt. Fe Paz of the Department of Education Muntinlupa Division along with local officials, and representatives of non-government organizations.

Alejandro will lead the teachers and 2,500 students when they transfer to the new site in the school opening in June. At the former campus, along the Philippine National Railways in Bayanan, there was one teacher to 50 students per class.

The new school with a 1:25 teacher-student ratio boasts a three-storey edifice, housing 34 classrooms, two restrooms per level, spacious corridors, wide stairways and a partly covered roof deck for the academic and extra-curricular functions.

Fresnedi said the construction of other schools, including daycare centers, are meant to decongest the number of students per class to improve the quality of education. Public school administrators said every year, a record-breaking bigger volume of students is drawn to the city’s high standard of instruction and facilities.

The Bayanan Unit I Elementary School is known for its active involvement in inter-school and regional sports, quiz bee and other contests.

Alejandro said without adequate space and facilities, Bayanan primary school held its activities in neighboring campuses and even in public parks.
